The STEMulus Cyber Academy includes programs in a variety of Information Technology (IT) fields that are essential in today’s digital world.

Meeting training standards is crucial to your career. The STEMulus Cyber Academy curriculum will provide the knowledge and skills for obtaining recognized and valued industry certifications.

IT Professional trains students for entry-level employment in IT support, help desk, desktop support and general IT maintenance positions. The focus is on broad IT knowledge, technical customer support, troubleshooting, analysis, and problem solving.

Pre-requisite: A conversation with a Program Manager is required prior to being accepted into the program to ensure that you have basic computer skills, and preferably prior IT training or experience.

Program Schedule

CompTIA A+ Certification Training – PC Hardware and Software (Weeks 1-8)

  • Disassemble and reassemble a working computer, establish a local computer network
  • Load and configure a working Windows operating system
  • Understand FAT filing systems and NTFS filing systems, optimize appropriate RAM on a computer system, partition a hard drive for multiple operating systems
  • Troubleshoot, configure and repair
  • Control access
  • Design, implement, and configure security

CompTIA Network+ Certification Training – Network Fundamentals (Weeks 9-16)

  • Understand networking concepts, topologies, major protocol suites, media and transport systems, network architecture, network hardware and network operating systems
  • Learn the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model, Internet and TCP/IP Fundamentals, TCP/IP Suite
  • Understand remote connectivity and network security
  • Install, maintain and support a network

LPI Linux Essentials Certification Training (Weeks 17-20)

  • Understand FOSS, various communities, and licenses
  • Gain knowledge of open source applications in the workplace as they relate to closed source equivalents
  • Learn basic concepts of hardware, processes, programs, and the components of the Linux Operating System
  • Understand how to work on the command line and work with files and how to run simple scripts
  • Demonstrate how to create and restore compressed backups and archives
  • Demonstrate system security, users/groups and file permissions for public and private directories

CompTIA Security+ Certification Training – Security Fundamentals (Weeks 21-28)

  • Learn the fundamentals of network security, compliance and operational security
  • Summarize network threats and vulnerabilities
  • Demonstrate application, data and host security techniques
  • Apply access control and identity management processes
  • Understand the basics of cryptography

CompTIA Linux+ Bootcamp – Optional add-on course (Week 29)

  • For those who have completed LPI Linux Essentials course or an equivalent course and want to earn the CompTIA Linux+ certification, this advanced four-day bootcamp will prepare you for the CompTIA Linux+ LX0-103 and LX0-104 exams.

IT Professional Fall 2017

  • Dates: October 16, 2017 – June 21, 2018
  • Application Deadline: October 13, 2017
  • Two week break between each class to allow time for certification exams
  • Class Schedule: Various weekday evenings, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

IT Professional Spring 2018

  • Dates: May 7, 2018 – December 18, 2018
  • Application Deadline: April 30, 2018
  • One-two week break between each class to allow time for certification exams
  • Class Schedule: Various weekday evenings, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Funding may be available for those who qualify. The Cyber Academy is a non-credit program that is not eligible for Financial Aid, but many Albuquerque residents qualify for funds that can assist with the cost of the program.

Cyber Academy programs are now eligible for the GI Bill. Veterans should apply for GI Bill benefits using the VONAPP, and obtain a Certificate of Eligibility before applying to the bootcamp.

TechHire is a program through the NM Workforce Connection Center that provides training, work experience, and job placement for IT job seekers in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties. The Security Professional curriculum provides you with the skills for obtaining recognized and valued industry certifications in cybersecurity.

Our program meets the training standards of CNSS 4011 and CNSS 4013 as well as DOD 8570.

Certified Ethical Hacker – Online, Mentor-led

A Certified Ethical Hacker is a skilled professional who understands and knows how to look for weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems and uses the same knowledge and tools as a malicious hacker, but in a lawful and legitimate manner to assess the security posture of a target system(s).

The CEH credential certifies individuals in the specific network security discipline of Ethical Hacking from a vendor-neutral perspective. This accredited course prepares you for the EC-Council CEH exam to receive the internationally recognized certification.

You will be mentored by a cybersecurity expert, who will guide you through the self-paced, online curriculum, and will be available to answer questions along the way. As a bonus, you’ll receive the EC-Council’s CEH online exam prep tool and the exam voucher as part of your tuition!

Pre-requisite: Prior IT experience, Security Pro or CompTIA Security+ certifications.

The Cisco Networking Academy Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) programs are a series of evening classes taught at the CNM Ingenuity’s STEMulus Center in downtown Albuquerque.

Veterans or New Mexico Residents: Financial assistance is available to defray as much as 100% of the Cisco Network Academy costs.

Investing in networking education has a huge payoff.  Within a few years (according to ITCareerFinder.com), a New Mexico CCNA Network Associate’s average annual wage can hit $70,310 with an average hourly wage of $33.80.

The Cisco Networking Academy helps individuals prepare for industry-recognized certifications and entry-level information technology (IT) careers in virtually every industry.

Students develop foundational skills in IT while acquiring career skills in problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.

IT Industry Certifications

Program Schedule

Introduction to Networks (Weeks 1-4)

  • Understand the devices and services used to support communications in data networks and the Internet, the role of protocol layers in data networks and the importance of addressing and naming schemes at various layers of data networks in IPv4 and IPv6 environments
  • Design, calculate, and apply subnet masks and addresses to fulfill given requirements in IPv4 and IPv6 networks
  • Explain fundamental Ethernet concepts such as media, services, and operations and build a simple Ethernet network using routers and switches
  • Use Cisco command-line interface (CLI) commands to perform basic router and switch configurations
  • Utilize common network utilities to verify small network operations and analyse data traffic

Routing & Switching Essentials (Weeks 5-8)

  • Describe the purpose, nature, and operations of a router, routing tables, and the route lookup process
  • Describe how VLANs create logically separate networks and how routing occurs between them
  • Describe dynamic routing protocols, distance vector routing protocols, and link-state routing protocols
  • Configure and troubleshoot static routing and default routing (RIP and RIPng), an Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) network, access control lists (ACLs) for IPv4 and IPv6 networks, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for IPv4 and IPv6 networks, and Network Address Translation (NAT) operations

Scaling Networks (Weeks 9-12)

  • Configure and troubleshoot enhanced switching technologies such as VLANs, Rapid Spanning, Tree Protocol (RSTP), Per VLAN Spanning Tree Plus Protocol (PVST+), and EtherChannel, first hop redundancy protocols (HSRP) in a switched network, wireless routers and wireless clients, routers in a complex routed IPv4 or IPv6 network using single-area OSPF, multiarea OSPF, and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
  • Manage Cisco IOS® Software licensing and configuration files

Connecting Networks (Weeks 13-16)

  • Describe different WAN technologies and their benefits and the operations and benefits of virtual private networks (VPNs) and tunneling
  • Configure and troubleshoot serial connections, broadband connections, tunneling operations, and Network Address Translation (NAT) operations
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network operations using syslog, SNMP, and NetFlow
  • Understand and describe network architectures

Dates

Network Associate 2018

  • Dates: April 28, 2018 – August 25, 2018
  • Application Deadline: April 21, 2018
  • One week break between each class to allow time for certification exams
  • Class Schedule: Saturdays, 9am-3pm

Fees: $4,999
